The Translation and Interpretation Division of the Secretariat-General of the Government of the Republic of Slovenia (hereinafter: TID SGG) performs the following tasks for national authorities:
- translation from Slovenian into foreign languages, and vice versa,
- language editing of Slovenian and foreign texts,
- conference interpreting (simultaneous, consecutive and whispered interpreting),
- echnical and content management of the Evroterm multilingual terminology database and Evrokorpus, the multilingual corpus of translated texts.
TID SGG translators and language editors participate in an expert group on editing Slovenian texts of international acts to be published in the Official Gazette of the Republic of Slovenia.
TID SGG also has court interpreters who provide certified translations for English, German and French.
Terminology established in the process of translation by TID SGG translators and terminology established within other national authorities and organisations is compiled, checked and entered into the Evroterm terminology database in order to ensure the consistent use of technical terms.
If a particular service cannot be performed by TID SGG employees, then such service is performed by external contractors on the basis of an authorisation given by the client.
2. Translation, interpretation and language editing services during Slovenia’s Presidency of the European Union (PEU)
In the view of anticipated increased needs for translation, interpretation and language editing services during the Presidency, and in order to ensure quality services, we have agreed on the following:
- centrally organised services for the purposes of the Presidency: the central point will be the TID SGG, which will expand its staff during the PEU, particularly for interpreting, by also involving staff from translation services of the ministries. The Presidency is a priority project in which all national authorities and government offices must participate. Therefore, all translators, interpreters and language editors who work in state administration will operate as one group. This operation will be harmonised but will not hinder the operation of any single authority. The TID SGG will ensure the provision of all services ordered in good time and in accordance with instructions.
- co-operation with language editors – native speakers: The TID SGG, wishing to ensure quality translations, has adopted internal criteria for language editing of translations. All translations into foreign languages which are to be published must therefore be edited in compliance with these criteria.
